Volunteer Opportunities

 

  • Aid and assist the recovery of stroke survivors.
  • Learn alternative means of communication to benefit recovery
  • Work directly to help people with disabilities and learning new caring skills
  • Work directly with professionals such as speech, exercise therapy, social work and recreation therapists
  • Meet community service or school requirements

 

Our volunteers are responsible for continued success and enable us to offer our services for free.

Become part of the innovative team approach to aiding victims of stroke regain their self-esteem and confidence.  Work with the recreation therapist, exercise therapists and speech therapists with direct client contact.   If you have special talent - art, music, teaching, cards - let us know. You can lead special programs that our clients enjoy.   We always need help in the kitchen and the dining room - assisting the chef, helping to wait the tables for our daily lunch and, of course, doing the dishes.  Jackie Lee's Thrift Shop - we need help selling, and sorting and pricing.  There are many opportunities for everyone to be part of our team.

Recreation Therapy

Assist therapists in planning and implementing programs, such as:

Walking program, Games & cards, Arts & crafts, Ceramics, Golf putting, Handwriting practice

 

Speech Therapy

Assist with speech practice

 

Entertainers

Music, dancing, comedy, novelty acts

 

Exercise Therapy

Answer phone, make appointments

After training, assist with client therapy

After training, take client blood pressures

Computer

Help teach clients basic computer and internet skills

Dining Room & Kitchen

Sign- in desk for lunch

Set up & serve coffee break

Set up & serve lunch

Do dishes

Thrift Shop

Price merchandise

Sell in shop (organize goods, price, eliminate)

 

Building & Maintenance

Light maintenance of building

Gardening and care of back area

 

Office

Assist in office

Receptionist (answer phones)

Tour guide

 

Fund Raising & Special Events

Assist with special events - before & during

Public Relations

Assist writing articles for center newsletter

Delivery of center materials to local physician offices and hospitals

Volunteer Program

Assist volunteer coordinator with program and special projects, and volunteer recruitment at health fairs

 

Auxiliary

Help to produce fundraisers throughout the year bringing the community into the Stroke Recovery Center

 

Board of Directors

Lend over site to the management of the organization Responsible for fundraising and support.
